1. Can I complete a transfer if I do not have any of my paperwork?
You can most definitely complete a transfer if you do not have any of your paperwork. If you are able, you should contact the insurance company making current or future payments to you and ask that they send you a copy of your Annuity Contract, Qualified Assignment and Settlement and Release if they have them. If you are not comfortable doing this, let the sales representative at the structured settlement purchasing company know and they can assist you in requesting these documents. On occasion, the insurance company will require that you make any request for documents in writing. This is also something the sales representative will be able to assist you with.
2. Can I complete a transfer if I am not sure what payments I am scheduled to receive?
You should absolutely be able to complete a structured settlement transfer even if you do not know what payments you are scheduled to receive. Often clients reach a settlement when they are small and they are not acutely aware of the payments they have been awarded. Or, maybe someone has sold some of their payments in the past and they are not sure what payments they have remaining. If this is the case, the best thing to do is speak to a representative at the purchasing company you are working with and ask them to do a conference call with you and the insurance company. During this call, you can ask a representative from your insurance company to tell you what payments you have remaining.
